UPMC Hillman Cancer Center welcomes new patients to our outpatient center in New Castle. Melanie Ongchin, MD, FACS, provides surgical consultations, diagnoses, and treatments for a variety of cancers, including peritoneal surface malignancies, the management of advanced, complex malignancies, gastric cancer, and abdominal sarcomas.

Melanie C. Ongchin, MD, FACS, is a surgical oncologist and treats all skin cancer, peritoneal metastases, mesothelioma, melanoma, sarcoma, upper gastrointestinal malignancies, colorectal cancer, and hepatobiliary cancer cases. She specializes in recurrent malignancies and peritoneal carcinomatosis.

Board-certified in general surgery and complex surgical oncology, Dr. Ongchin received her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School in Newark, N.J. Dr. Ongchin completed a research fellowship at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo, N.Y. She also completed a residency at the State University of New York, University at Buffalo in N.Y., followed by a fellowship in surgical oncology at UPMC.

Our Services

In collaboration with UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and the Division of GI Surgical Oncology, UPMC Jameson provides local access to specialized surgical oncology services. Because these services are available in Lawrence County, patients do not need to travel to Pittsburgh for appointments.

Services offered at UPMC Jameson include:

  • Comprehensive, pre-operative consultations
  • Open, minimally invasive, and robotic surgical procedures
  • Postoperative care
  • Access to more advanced treatments like hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemoperfusion (HIPEC) and novel clinical trials as part of the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center network
